Garen Tchopourian was recognized as the Rockville Centre Soccer Club’s Volunteer of Year at the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s 32nd annual Volunteer Awards Dinner. The ceremony, which honors men and women for their dedication to the sport of soccer and the nearly 60,000 youngsters who play the game on Long Island, took place on Friday, March 7th, at the Hilton Huntington Hotel in Melville, NY.
Garen Tchopourian began with the RVC Soccer Club about four years ago when his son, Mateo, was in kindergarten. As is his nature, Garen quickly volunteered to coach. Soon after, he became a grade level commissioner, being responsible for 100+ players and 20 volunteer coaches.
When the club was in need of someone to head up the supplemental development program for this age group, Garen once again stepped up, taking over leadership of the program. When we lost his counterpart for the girls' supplemental program, and in spite of already having a full plate, he graciously took responsibility for that group as well.
Everywhere in life, there are people who "do" and people who "don't". Fortunately for the Rockville Centre Soccer Club, Garen is a "do-er"! Our many thanks to Garen.
