Travel Program

The Travel Program is designed to provide the highly motivated athlete an opportunity to compete at the highest possible levels. An initial tryout is required by all players wishing to participate on a Rockville Centre Travel team. The Board of Directors requires open tryouts for ages U-10, U-11 and U-12. Selection is on a year to year basis. Our Club currently sponsors 39 Travel teams representing Rockville Centre at all levels of League competition. Starting with the U-11 age group, travel players from our girls and boys programs may tryout for the SELECT programs offered by the Long Island Junior Soccer League and The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association. These programs provide the highest levels of training and competition. Players can advance at the U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 age groups to competitions within the USYSA Regional and National Teams. The Rockville Centre Soccer Club has had many players from our program advance to various stages of player and team development. Presently, we are honored to have over 30 boys and girls playing in the LIJSL SELECT program and/or ENYYSA State SELECT players.

Commitment by Players and Parents
Players are required to attend practices on a regular basis with two training sessions per week during the season being the norm. Players are required to attend all matches.

Competition
The RVC Soccer Club, Inc. is a charter member of the Long Island Junior Soccer League, located at 101 Sunnyside, Plainview, N.Y. 11803(516-756-9696). The League provides matches for member clubs (90+) during the Fall and Spring. During the winter months, teams train at local gyms and may participate in area Indoor Tournaments. Our teams are placed in various Divisions by the League based on levels of ability. Throughout the two seasons, a team could participate in about 20-25 League matches. Also, during the Spring, all teams may participate in the League sponsored Waldbaum's Cup or State sponsored ENYYSA Cup. Throughout the year, a travel team could participate in up to 45-50 matches through League, State Cup, Waldbaum Cup and various tournament competitions.

Registration and Fees
Registration of teams and players takes place in the Fall. The Registration fee for the 2004/2005 Fall/Spring Seasons is $150.00 per player. Those players playing only during the Spring pay $100.00. The Travel coach is responsible for collecting registration fees, outside trainer fees and tournament fees, in advance of the playing season and preparing documents needed to register the team and players. When selected for a Travel team, a player must provide:

Through the U-12 season, selection to a Travel team is done annually at a competitive tryout, which includes every child in the Club in the age group.

On the U-10 and U-11, 50% playing time is mandatory. On the U-12 and older teams, coaches are encouraged to allow players a reasonable amount of match time for their soccer development. However, as players approach the highest divisions of competition, parents are usually consulted as to the best path their child should take whether with the team or not. If fringe players are kept, parents and players usually know in advance about the limited playing time available and alternatives for their child to continue playing soccer at other levels of competition.

Roster deletions can be made either unilaterally by the parent at any time during the year or by the coach only at the end of the Spring season. Additions can by made at any time until the 6th Travel match during each season.

League matches require travel to Eastern Suffolk county and State games can be as far as Albany.

Player Eligibility and Movement
Players of all ages are eligible to tryout for a RVC Travel team, provided they are residents. A resident includes all who live in RVC, attend school in RVC or who have played on intramural or travel teams in RVC.

Teams in the Under-10 group are open only to RVC residents, as defined above. Furthermore, players are encouraged to play in their respective age groups . This is to insure player and team development within each age group during the early years. In the past teams have opted to play in older age groups for improved competition.

Teams in the Under-11 and older age groups may have non resident players. See the Classic Team section for details. In addition, subject to their ability, in house travel players can play in an older age group if they desire. Beginning with U-13 players can move up to older age groups without approval by the Board of Directors. Acceptance by the older travel team coach is required for addition to the older team.

For teams in the Under-15 and above age groups, there are no restrictions for rostering resident or non-resident players.

Coaches Selection
The Board of Directors appoints the coach from qualified applicants who are reviewed by a Travel Selection Committee. All coaches are required to have a League or State license. Our coaches are unsung heroes involved as volunteers and committed to your child for about 8 years, twice each week at practice and on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays for match and tournament play. Some coaches hold advanced national licenses either through the USSF or the NSCAA. Some of our coaches train LIJSL SELECT or ENYYSA State Teams. The underlying ingredient to coaching has always been a commitment to our children and to soccer.

Advanced Training
The RVC Soccer Club instituted a program which enables teams to supplement their regular training sessions with advanced instruction from contracted, professional coaches. The uniqueness of this program has met with resounding success. Not only have we reduced the per player cost substantially in relation to area summer camps or private trainers, but we have demonstrated to other clubs the ability of RVCSC to be a forward thinker in the area of providing the highest levels of training to our youth.
